NOW IS THE TIME OF YEAR TO DO IT! As things become increasingly "peaceful" around boatyards and marinas at this time of year, take advantage of the opportunity to prepare and assemble YOUR team for the Spring season. Be sure to check out the DOZENS of people actively seeking jobs in the marine industry. From technicians, to managers to captains to apprentices—their contact information can be found in the Job Posting Bulletin Board section at www.boatma.com. Don't be caught short-handed this season! MMTA SUPPORTED MARINE TRADES EDUCATION AT MASSASOIT COMMUNITY COLLEGE Take advantage of the chance to train and develop the skills of your current employees! The 1st ever college level Marine Technicians Training at Massasoit CC was sold out early last Fall. Because you are an MMTA member and because of the overwhelming popularity of this course, you are the first to be informed that there are a few seats remaining in the next section of this course which begins in early January 2005. This course presents a brief overview of the marine industry, working environment for technicians, marine tools, and equipment. Also introduced are the fundamental principles of internal combustion engines (two and four stroke), engine systems, basic electricity, as well as marine electrical and electronic components. Topics include starting, charging, and ignition systems, instrumentation, trouble-shooting and diagnostics. Instruction includes both lecture and hands-on training. The other three modules: Marine Technology Outboard Engines, Marine Technician Boat and Motor Systems, and Marine Technician Boatyard Skills will be offered during following semesters. Through this program, assistance in gaining a position in the recreational marine trades is offered by the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association. The Quincy Public Schools is pioneering a marine trades technical training program. The ONLY thing they lack at the moment is an engine test tank or the funds to purchase one.
