In response to a recent MMTA News Alert in which a plea was made on behalf of Quincy Public Schools for an engine test tank for their recently launched Marine Service Curriculum, I am pleased to report that several GENEROUS donations of funds and materials have been made by MMTA members:
If you would like to make a donation of funds or materials to support the Education and Training of the Marine Trades in Massachusetts, contact MMTA Education Committee Chair, Ed Lofgren at erl@3amarine.com In the meantime, THANK YOU Bayside, Burr Brothers and Riverfront! The U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary would like to offer a few last minute holiday gift ideas for the boater in your life. Some of the most valuable gifts don't cost anything but time, such as scheduling a free vessel safety check with the local Coast Guard Auxiliary. An auxiliarist will ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety requirements before getting underway. For more information visit: http://safetyseal.net Another gift idea is to sign up for a boating safety course. Course topics include basic boating knowledge, laws, navigational rules and problem solving. To learn more, visit the USCGAUX Boating Safety Class page at: http://www.uscgaux.org/~013/pe.html Some other gift ideas which can be found at any boating supply store include:
If you are a tow boat operator, a recreational boater, a fisherman, a marina operator, or otherwise live, work or engage in recreational activities around America's waterways, the United States Coast Guard wants your help in keeping these areas safe and secure. You can do this by participating in its America's Waterway Watch program, a nationwide initiative similar to the well known and successful Neighborhood Watch program that asks community members to report suspicious activities to local law enforcement agencies. As a person who spends much of your time on or near the water, you already know what is normal and what is not, and you are well suited to notice suspicious activities - activities possibly indicating threats to our nation's homeland security. And as a participant in America's Waterway Watch we urge you to adopt a heightened sense of sensitivity toward unusual events or individuals you may encounter in or around ports, docks, marinas, riversides, beaches, or waterfront communities. You should always remember that people are not suspicious, behavior is. And if you observe suspicious behavior or activity, you should simply note the details and contact local law enforcement. You are not expected to approach or challenge anyone acting in a suspicious manner. Link to: AMERICA'S WATERWAY WATCH HOME PAGE As it is time to renew your MMTA membership, we encourage you take this action on the BoatMA.com web site. It is easy and fast, and you can provide all the needed business and payment information by simply filling out a single on-line form! Click here to Renew Your Membership. Promote your business on the most visible boating web site in the region!
