Dear Marine Industry Colleague and Friend: The Massachusetts Marine Trades Association and the Massachusetts Marine Trades Education Trust are delighted to invite you to attend the first Marine Industry Issues Summit on October 1 at 9:00AM at the World Trade Center in Boston. We are honored that Ranch Kimball, Secretary of Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, will be our keynote speaker. Secretary Kimball will discuss the pressing need to address the critical issues that the marine industry is confronting, such as the lack of a skilled employee pool and regulatory obstacles that can impede small business growth. We will also be joined by Dr. Ed Mahoney of Michigan State University, an expert in the macro-economics of the marine industry. Dr. Mahoney will discuss recreational boating and its impact on the economy, as well as the need for expansion of public access to the waterfront to spur development and economic growth. Following our guest speakers and a brief refreshment break, the Summit will reconvene with Round Table Discussions of marine industry issues. Each "topic table" will be hosted by industry and environmental professionals with detailed knowledge of the critical issues that we are confronting. Topics for discussion will include workforce development, public access, environmental stewardship, economic growth, boater safety and the most current legislative issues relative to the boating industry. At the conclusion of the Round Table Discussions, we invite you to enjoy a tour of the Seventh Annual Boston In-Water Boat Show, which will take place from September 30th to October 3rd at the World Trade Center. The Boat Show features hundreds of vendors from the marine industry and draws thousands of visitors from around the country. It is a testament to the enormous contributions that the marine industry makes to the local and national economy as well as our quality of life in Massachusetts. Your participation in the Marine Industry Issues Summit will move us toward our shared goal to maintain and grow this critical industry! Enclosed please find invitation response information, which we kindly request receipt of by September 23rd. Directions, transportation and parking information are included as well. Thank you for your consideration of our invitation. We look forward to your favorable response.
