Financial support for the Grow Boating Start Up Fund is now more than half way to the $2 million goal established in early December. Funding eclipsed $1 million yesterday afternoon when S2 Yachts’ donation reached NMMA. “This is a big accomplishment for the industry, but we still have a way to go to reach our goal,” says NMMA president Thom Dammrich. “It is an encouraging sign to see the great support we have received from all industry segments, and we are confident that we will raise the $2 million needed for the Start Up Fund, but to do that, more industry stakeholders need to step up and make their contributions now.” For more information and to make your contribution, visit www.growboating.com. An Excerpt from the Cape Cod Marine Trades ENewsletter, January 2005: A followup to the December 10th cold and wet demonstration! Tony Davis of Arey's Pond Boatyard (APBY) invites all boatyards to visit or re-visit its power wash station in South Chatham (96 Commerce Park Road) or call with any questions. "We plan to open it for spring washing in early April," said Tony. "The system we chose is ideal for us. All the wash water is recycled and filtered. Just about any system can be designed to fit your facility. If you are planning any major improvements to your facility, we recommend including a power wash catch basin in your plans." Based on a customer survey more than 5 years ago when APBY started this project, the customers were 90% for it. A small boat system (26' and under like APBY costs $37,000 installed, with an estimated annual operation cost of $1,200. Tony estimates a 65' and under system would be $150,000 with a $3,000 per year operation cost. "Inevitably, our charge for power washing will increase," said Tony. You can reach Tony Davis at APBY, Inc. at: 508-255-0994 phone, 508-255-8977 fax, catboat@cape.com email.
