Massachusetts Marine Industry Group Insurance Update

At the beginning of the year many of you kindly responded to our request for information to prepare background information for an effort to obtain marine industry group health insurance.

Recently, Mark Yearn, the coordinator of the project sent us this update:

Thanks for the note and my apologies for not responding sooner. I have been meaning to for a couple of weeks. We did receive information from several of your members, which was very much appreciated. At this point, we have compiled the information received from around the country into a census format and have begun the process of working with Health Care Providers with the hopes of putting a program together utilizing the purchasing power of a national group. This process is slow and tedious, but one in which we are working on diligently. I will keep you posted as to any progress, outlook, potential, etc. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with any questions or for a status.

Please make sure that the members of your association know how much I appreciate their assistance and support and that we are working on this project in an effort to reduce the overall cost of healthcare for their business.

Thanks from Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology

Below is a letter received by MMTA thanking membership for its support of the Ben Franklin Institute's Fundraising event last month.
All of us at Franklin are still basking in the afterglow of our Franklin High-Fly'n Fundraiser on Saturday, April 16. Everyone who came seems to have had a fine time and the event was well received.

We have received much wonderful feedback about the event and about our students, our faculty, our staff, and our mission. In many ways, it was a wonderful kickoff to future fundraising activities that will assist us in keeping Benjamin Franklin's legacy alive through technical education and workforce development for the residents of Boston and the citizens of Massachusetts. These funds will assist us in building our enrollment, providing scholarships to needy students, and transforming our wonderful but aged and tired facilities into 21 st century teaching and learning environments.

The event could not have been a success without your support. We are deeply appreciative and will make good use of the funds to enhance the mission of the Institute. Overall the fundraiser raised $55,000.

On behalf of the trustees, staff, faculty, and students here at BFIT, I extend to you our grateful thanks for your generosity in helping to make the event - and ultimately, this institution successful.

Christopher Morss
Interim President
