Fond Farewell To Retiring Board Member, Brian Mulrenin of Yacht Listings
At the end of March, MMTA President Greg Glavin reluctantly accepted the resignation from the MMTA Board of Director Brian C. Mulrenin of Yacht Listings of Cotuit. Mr. Mulrenin wrote in his notice of departure,
"After a great deal of consideration these past few months I have decided to retire from the Board of MMTA and Boat Shows Inc. After approximately 25 years of serving I think its time for someone else to have a chance. I have been proud to be part of such a progressive organization. I feel we have come a long way, yet there will always be lots to do in this constantly changing industry. It has been a pleasure to serve with you, and for you Greg, and all the other members of the board. I wish all of you great success in your future endeavors and, for now, this is my final "Motion to Adjourn".
During his quarter century tenure Brian Mulrenin served thirteen different administrations, oversaw three Executive Directors and contributed greatly to the progress of the association, Boat Shows, Inc. and the marine industry as a whole. Through it all, Brian's steadfast commitment and sage advice helped to guide the Association through so many economic cycles.
MMTA Officers, Directors, Staff and General Membership thank Brian for his twenty five years of loyal, dedicated and selfless service to the MMTA and its membership. Join us in wishing Brian all the best in his future personal and professional endeavors.
Dealers Urged to Begin Dealer Agreement Reviews: Request An Advance Copy of Your Agreement Today
In May of 2005, the NMMA Dealer Manufacturer Agreement Task Force presented the guidelines and contract language that were intended to be the basis for standard issue of dealer agreements. The Board of Directors for the NMMA Boat Manufacturers Division unanimously endorsed these guidelines and suggested their members use them. Since that time a number of manufacturers have indicated they will use the language in their 2007 agreements. It is now time to see if those statements are being honored.
MRAA Chairman, Glenn Mazzella said "I encourage all marine dealers to contact their boat manufacturers and request an advance copy of their 2007 Dealer Agreement. This will give you adequate time to review the language with your staff and legal team before you attend your dealer meetings this summer." Specifically it is important to find out if corrections of the open ended statements and exhibits that exist in the proposed language have been put in place and that new language will be used.
Dealers deserve and should demand the luxury of time to study this document that may govern their manufacturer relationship for up to 3 years in the future. During the fast paced atmosphere of a dealer meeting is not the time to be pressured to execute such an important document. Any dealer needing copies of the proposed general language should contact the MRAA office at 708-763-9210 or mraa@mraa.com.
As our industry draws closer together thru the new initiatives such as Discover Boating, Dealer certification, and Product certification, it is imperative that we come together on the bedrock of our relationships - the Dealer/Manufacturer Agreement.
