  • GUNVOR ARMSTRONG
    April 2000

Gunvor Armstrong died Saturday, March 4, 2000. She and her husband, William B. (Bill) Armstrong, owned and operated Armstrong Boats in Norwell for 40 years. Bill, treasurer of MMTA for many years, died in 1989 and Mrs. Armstrong continued to operate the facility until moving to the Cape in 1996.

A graduate of Bridgewater State Teachers College, she taught in the Fairhaven, Attleboro, and Milton school systems. A long-time resident of Norwell, she served on the Norwell School Committee and the South Shore Vocational School Committee. She also was on the Board of Directors of the South Weymouth Savings Bank and the South shore Natural Science Center.

The Armstrongs were primarily responsible for instituting the present MMTA Education Grant program; the William Armstrong Scholarship Award for high school students given by the MMTA was the result of their efforts.

Her son – Tom Armstrong –is currently a member of the MMTA Board of directors.
