On February 7, the MMTA Board of Directors elected a new Executive Director to replace Frank Farrell who retired after 29 years of exemplary service. He is Ray Gaffey, who has been active in the Association since it’s inception in 1970. He was President in 1984 to 1986 and on the Board of Directors since. Ray holds a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from MIT. His experience includes stints with wooden and fiberglass boat builders – including Boston Whaler where he was General Manager during it’s high growth years – as well as design work with John G. Alden Inc. and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He also was Manager of the Marine Department at Merriman Bros., Inc. where he held patents on various items of marine hardware. He has owned or operated three boatyards/marinas and has developed numerous marinas including Tern Harbor, Marina at James Landing, and the early expansion of Hyannis Marine. Most recently, he has been doing marine survey work, both on his own as well as associated with Robert Kershaw Inc.
