BOSTON

Regional grants in the Boston area included $1,500 to Save-the-Harbor, Save-the-Bay, and $500 to the Park Department for their annual tournament. The Save-the-Harbor Summer –Long Fishing Derby is open to fishermen from Cape Ann to Cape Cod. First prize includes a boat, motor, trailer, and tackle package donated by Ed Lofgren of 3A Marine, Past President of MMTA. Division winners receive $500 and a trophy. If any lucky fisherman breaks the State Record for Striped Bass or Bluefish, they will be driving home in a brand new Land Rover, courtesy of Land Rover of Hanover.

Derby buttons are on sale at bait and tackle shops and boat dealers for just $25 for adults; $5 for kids. The Derby runs through Labor Day.

SOUTH SHORE

Again this year Regional Grants were awarded to Lincoln Sailing Club of Hingham, and the Green Harbor Tuna Club. The Lincoln Sailing Club has an extensive sailing program for youngsters on the South Shore.

The Green Harbor Tuna Club promotes their South Suburban Special Olympics Blue Fishing Tournament with all proceeds going to the South Shore Special Olympics. Held on July 22nd, this year’s winner was “Special Olympian” Jennifer Gilman on F/V OSHUN SPRAY.

Duxbury Bay Sailing School received a regional grant of $500 to assist them in their Inner City Junior Sailing programs.

SOUTHEASTERN

The Coalition for Buzzards Bay has received a $500 grant to promote their programs dedicated to the protection of Buzzards Bay. This is the second year we have supported this non-profit organization as a Corporate Associate for the sustainable use of the Bay.

Also this year we again helped to sponsor the Annual Poker Run in Buzzards Bay where participants travel to various ports to pick up their cards and, hopefully, a winning hand!
