  • Scituate Harbor Dredging Plan

At present, the plan is to start the Scituate Harbor dredging project on July 15th. The Corps of Engineers wants to do the dredging in one budget cycle instead of the two winter phases requested by the town. Mooring removal is to start in July with an area including moorings on the Northwest side of First Cliff and the main channel. In August the area will be North of the main channel and West of Cedar Point. In September, the balance of the main channel to the town pier and towards the town marina as well as the mooring area on the Northwest side of the channel towards the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club will be done. From October thru January 2003, the other mooring areas will be dredged and the South Jetty in front of First Cliff rebuilt.

Mooring owner’s will not have to pay the cost of mooring removal and replacement. Finished water depths will be about 12 feet at low tide at the entrance to over 8 feet in the mooring areas and inner channels. Reportedly the entire harbor hasn’t been done in 50 years.
