  • CAFE STANDARDS
    May 2001

Proposed changes in CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards for light trucks, vans, and SUVs could seriously affect the prospective or current boater who wants to safely tow a boat and trailer.

MRAA is in strong support of maintaining current standards of 20.7 mpg average rather than increasing it to the 28 mpg proposed. If CAFÉ light trucks were raised to the 28 mpg average, all boat and trailer combinations over 1,000 lbs. could not be pulled safely by a pick-up, van, or SUV.
