Starting with a group of 19 members and employees, our Certification Basic Course offerings opened at Green Harbor Marina’s restaurant—The Compass Rose. Thanks to Dan Vigneau of Green Harbor Marina, space at the restaurant was arranged for April 4th. The basic courses were Code of Conduct and Delivering Hassle-Free Boating. Each are a three –hour session mandatory for those firms or individuals wanting to gain MIC Certification. Another group of 11 attended our second class held at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich on April 9th.The facility was available through the efforts of Kurt Ainsworth, an instructor in the marine engine courses at the school. With the collaboration of Mass. Maritime Academy and Associate Dean Eileen Milanette, a third group was qualified on April 11th. This consisted of 14 employees from local marine firms. Our fourth group for the spring session gathered at the Holiday Inn in Peabody. While one of the smaller groups—only 12 were there—it was the most diversified which led to active participation in the courses. Unfortunately, one scheduled for April 23rd at Brunelle’s Marina, had to be postponed but future courses are planned for late fall there and in the Worcester area among other locations.
