  • The American Boating Congress

On May 5th and 6th, representatives from MMTA attended the American Boating congress sponsored by the industry in Washington, DC.

Present from MMTA were President Tom Cox, Education Chair Ed Lofgren, and Legislative Staffer Jamy Madeja. Our Washington Lobbyist, Larry Innis, guided our delegates through Congress and sat in on all of the meetings with Congrssmen and staffers. These included Reps. Bill Delahunt, John Tierney, and Ed Markey. Key staffers with Senator Kennedy, Reps. Michael Capuano and Steve Lynch were also conferred with.

Requests were made for support on Access and Educational issues. It was also stressed that the Representatives should join the Boating Caucus in congress, support reauthorization of the Wallop-Breaux bill and funding, and the Perkins Vocational Act. All requests were received favorably.

It is urged that all who are able to attend this industry affair, go next year as it reaps big dividends for Boating and the Boating Industry.
