    Russo on RBFF Board

    The Recreational Boating and Fishing foundation (RBFF) recently announced the appointment of Larry Russo Sr. to their Board of directors. RBFF decided to add more diversity to its board and added representatives from boat and engine manufactures, marinas, and dealers represented by Russo.

    Russo was awarded the “Water Works Wonders” Boating Retailer of the Year Award in February, 2003.



    ABBRA’s 2002 Wage Report

    American Boat Builders & Repairers Associations’ 2002 Wage Rate Survey Report, comparing rates for boatyards and related jobs, is now available as of 6/5/03.

    It includes information about wages and salaries, vacation time, benefits, and pension plans for most job categories.



    Proclamation

    Thanks to our legislative counsel, Jamy Madeja, Governor Mitt Romney has issued a proclamation naming June 21st, 2003 to be CLEAN BOATING DAY IN MASSACHUSETTS, and August 2nd through August 9th, 2003, to be MARINA WEEK IN MASSACHUSETTS

    Further it states Mass. marinas are stewards of the environment, actively seeking to protect the surrounding waterways for this and future generations. Also the Marine Environmental Education Fund and the Mass. Marine Trades Association seek to raise awareness of their stewardship to provide an environmentally friendly gateway to boating for citizens of Mass. and visitors.

    There is still time to get in your requests for education grants. We realize at this time of year, there are many courses being offered for employees. MMTA will pay for cost of course, housing, transportation (other than mileage), up to a maximum of $250. per employee; $500. total per MMTA full member. Scholarships are awarded students pursuing further education in the marine trades with the intent of entering the recreational marine trades. Students at our Massasoit Basic Boating courses are reimbursed their tuition if they become employed in our trade. Contact Ed Lofgren—781-749-3250.

    Employee Grants are given MMTA member firms for expenses of an employee who has attended a course or seminar offered to the trade for educational purposes.

    The maximum per employee is $250. or $500. per firm.

    MMTA Members must have been a member for at least one year.
