- National
Clean Boating Celebration
Boston
has been chosen as the site of this years National Clean Boating
Celebration. It will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2003 with
headquarters at Boston Yacht Haven on Commercial Wharf.
Massachusetts Marine Trades Association will be one of the
sponsors; the others being U.S. EPA New England Regional,
Tennessee Valley Authority, and other state and national organizations.
This is a year-round initiative that promotes good stewardship
of water resources by boaters, marina operators, boat dealers,
and boating industry manufacturers. Using a combinationof
existing environmental curricula, public relations, volunteers,
exhibitors, and industry experts, NCBC encourages recreational
boaters to adhere to several simple, common sense practices
that contribute to better water quality. Using approved pump
out stations; using biodegradable cleaning supplies; refueling
carefully; and keeping bilges clean and oil free are some
of the measures urged. Marinas are encouraged to practice
sensible conservation practices.
The Clean Boating Celebration will include presentations from
local , state and national leaders, both from the public sector
as well as the marine industry. A wide variety of public activities
will be provided, including clean boating related exhibits,
sample products, clean boating, tips and literature, as clean
boating demonstrations.
On June 21st, volunteers call "Dockwalkers" will distribute
the MCBC publication "A Guide to a Cleaner Boating Environment"
to all marinas in Boston Harbor as well as others interested.
